The author describes his journey to becoming a proud Southern Baptist and shares his recent experience at the SBC annual meeting. He supported the election of Clint Presley as SBC President and the removal of FBC Alexandria for their views on female pastors, but was disappointed by the failure of the Law Amendment. The Coop-Group report was well received, but there was a push to abolish the ERLC. The author found the resolutions unnecessary and highlighted the fellowship and family experience as the highlights of the event.
SBC21 Reflections
I come away from the SBC annual meeting generally encouraged. We have a lot of work to do, but I believe our convention will persevere through the trials that lay ahead. So long as we stand on the inerrancy and sufficient authority of scripture. And as long as we proclaim, with power and confidence, a clear gospel of repentance, redemption, and reconciliation through the atoning work of Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.
